WHERE TO BUY PROFESSION BASED PRODUCTS ESPECIALLY MEDICAL?

There is a clear market of normal everyday product that you can buy online and there are quite a few known names that come to one’s mind when they think about it but when it comes to certain products these sites fail miserably. This is because the sellers of certain products do not see a potential buyer to come to such a site for certain things. For this reason, many smaller sites have emerged and provide the sellers with a chance to sell products that otherwise are very hard to sell. This is especially true for people looking for products that have been used before or products that will only be needed by people from a certain profession. What exceptional products can these sites have? Medical equipment: CT scan, MRI machine, X-Ray machine, mammography machine, C-arm, digital DR/CR are a few medical equipment that one cannot buy from the normal shops. […]

BUYING SECOND HAND PRODUCTS ONLINE

When it comes to online shopping, a lot of things need to be considered. This is purely because there are several factors that change over time. For one, many sites today deal with second-hand products that have been in use for some time in the past and they would be used again in the future. Here, we will know what to look for when buying second-hand products online. From a seller’s perspective, these online sites that give these people a platform to sell things that they do not need but somebody else might comes as bliss. This means that the products, that they do not wish to use can go to someone else who needs them. The buyer of course, gets the product at marginally less price and the seller does not need to give money to someone else to take out the products which he does not need. Instead, […]

CARDIAC MRI TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL FATAL HEART DISEASE?

CARDIAC MRI TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL FATAL HEART DISEASE?

The use of MRI to determine heart function has been slow to catch on, but a study from Duke Health researchers shows that stress cardiac MRI not only diagnoses disease but can also predict which cases are potentially fatal. Results from a large, multi-center study suggest that Cardiac Magnetic Resonance, or CMR, has potential as a non-invasive, non-toxic alternative to stress echocardiograms, catheterizations and stress nuclear exams in identifying the severity of coronary artery disease. The study appears online Feb. 8 in JAMA Cardiology. “We’ve known for some time that CMR is effective at diagnosing coronary artery disease, but it’s still not commonly used and represents less than one percent of stress tests used in this country,” said senior author Robert Judd, Ph.D., co-director of the Duke Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Center. “One of the impediments to broader use has been a lack of data on its predictive value — something competing technologies […]

HAVE TATTOOS? YOUR MRI SCAN MIGHT BE VERY UNPLEASANT

HAVE TATTOOS? YOUR MRI SCAN MIGHT BE VERY UNPLEASANT

Before sliding into a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, patients are supposed to remove all metal from their bodies: underwire, jewelry, piercings, everything. The machines work using extremely strong magnets, and there are all kinds of horror stories of people leaving metal in their skin or on their body, to disastrous effects. But it’s not just piercings and jewelry people should be worried about, it turns out that some tattoos might actually become a problem during an MRI scan. Needless to say, tattoos are rapidly increasing in popularity. It is said that more than 38% of young people between the age of 19 to 28 have at least one tattoo needled to their body. Yet, examining tattooed people via MRI could possibly be risky. The first prospective study with statistically verifiable numbers has now been presented by a research team led by Nikolaus Weiskopf in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. […]

MORE ACCESSIBLE METHOD TO MEASURE TUMOR HYPOXIA?

Twenty-five percent of deaths in the United States are caused by cancer, and the number of incidences increases due to population growth, prolonged life expectancy, and an abundance of risk factors including smoking, a lack of activity, and obesity. A common feature of most tumors is a low level of oxygen, called hypoxia, the severity of which varies between tumor types. Tumour hypoxia is a condition in which tumor cells have low oxygen concentrations compared with healthy tissues, resulting from an imbalance between oxygen supply and consumption. Tumor hypoxia presence in a breast tumor leads to resistance to radiotherapy and anticancer chemotherapy as well as predisposing for increased tumor metastases. Tumour hypoxia is also a strong prognostic factor for disease progression, development of metastases, and the overall survival of a patient. A group of researchers from Austria has developed a non-invasive method for determining hypoxia and neovascularization in breast tumors […]

WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF HELIUM, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

WE’RE RUNNING OUT OF HELIUM, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

On August 18, 1868, astronomers turned their telescopes toward a solar eclipse, not knowing they were about to expand the periodic table. Their goal was to discern the ingredients of solar prominences, the giant loops of glowing, electrified gas the sun occasionally belted out. When astronomers split the prominences’ light into its components, they detected some colors they’d never seen before—the sign of an undiscovered element. This mysterious gas was helium, a substance so inert and whisper-light that it’d take scientists another 27 years to isolate it on terra firma. You may think of helium as the stuff in party balloons, or the gas that can make your voice squeaky. But helium has revealed itself to have an array of more practical uses, from essential equipment in science labs to common medical scanners and even scuba tanks. “All kinds of scientific breakthroughs, from the discovery of the Higgs boson to the […]

HAVING AN MRI SCAN? HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO EXPECT

Here is the thing, unless you like lying in tubes that make loud and mystifying noises, getting an MRI scan probably is not on the top your list of ways to spend your free time. Unfortunately, sometimes getting an MRI (which stands for magnetic resonance imaging) is just a medically necessary evil. In that case, you’ll have to schlep over to your local radiology clinic or hospital to spend some quality time inside a machine that lets doctors see what’s up inside your body. If the thought sends shivers down your spine, there’s some good news: MRIs often aren’t as scary as they seem. In case you’re not familiar with the test, an MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to make detailed pictures of your insides. When you’re inside an MRI machine, its magnetic field temporarily realigns hydrogen atoms in your body, according to the Mayo Clinic. Radio waves make these […]

HOW A.I IS CHANGING THE WORLD OF RADIOLOGY

HOW A.I IS CHANGING THE WORLD OF RADIOLOGY

Artificial intelligence (A.I) and natural language processing are making their way into the medical imaging field, and radiologists have mixed feelings on these developments because they might encroach on the invaluable human element of evaluating diagnostic images. The progression of artificial intelligence can be seen in virtual assistants and self-driving cars, while in healthcare it can be used to assist in the diagnosis and care of a patient. Radiological images are complex, and it requires a human ability to interpret and detect patterns in patients’ CT scans, MRIs and X-rays. Much of the analysis performed on medical images is learned over years of training and experience. But by combining advancements in image processing with artificial intelligence in healthcare, there is an opportunity for technology to supplement the work of radiologists and help them with their duties. However, despite the promising things Radiologists could achieve by incorporating A.I into their work, there is still some disbelief about […]
